Final Draft of Double Page Spread

As I wait upon a rooftop towering over the Soho streets for Yung Preme,  a rapper new to the game who is already taking centre stage as a youth culture idol. I look down onto the city in action below I think what to say, go over my lines and then turn back around towards the London skyline. From what I envisioned a street styled, pre-pubescent, skater with an edgy look appears in front of me, a fixed facial expression tells me this is going to be an interesting interview, we sit down, have a smoke and diverge about what is going to happen over the next 20 minutes and then get straight to it.

So Yung Preme you’re new to the rap game, what do you feel you have to bring?

To be honest I am safe to say that I feel as if I am going to bring a new style to the game, I feel that rappers today are to generic and not even making sense in some of their songs. But still with a beat that will get any young kid hooked and a fake auto tune voice they still rise to popularity and soar above those who are real and are in it for the passion, not the money.

Interesting from that you seem to show that you actually care about what rap is, so I’m guessing you’re debut album due this spring will prove yourself right?

Yeah man, like I spent a long time beforehand thinking about where I should go with the album, to me it’s just an experiment which demonstrates the capabilities of music which can voice out the truth of the bad and bring the people together to fight the bad.

So what are your thoughts on it, do you think it shows you to be taken seriously?

I think it is something really special, definitely different, but not weird different, like different in way which relieve those who have been waiting years for a non-generic album which really has a deep meaning as a whole musical piece. Something definitely to show those in the game for time that I am someone to be taken serious, you see what the rappers aren’t ready for is a real person, you see I’m not compromising anything, like anyone that is going to talk shit about me, got problems you know what I’m saying, it’s going to be straight up as if I was a street person, I want to be real about it.

Very inspirational, are you currently working on anything new now that your debut album is out of the way?

Yeah I’m in the studio currently collaborating with another artist from Harlem who shares the same vision as me, I can’t really give it away but it is someone who I’d say has been a big inspiration towards my style and my look on things. So I feel that it is going to be really special and something to look forward to in the near future.

Do you feel that you have to make an impression anyhow, you know coming from the streets of Harlem?

Yeah I feel that I have to inspire and give to the next generation soon to follow me and everyone else, it’s just you hope they follow the right path and stay of the streets selling crack and so on, just so they can stay out of corruption and see that there is a better way of life.

What made you think this way, was it through an experience in the past?

It was definitely not having any achievements in my life to look back upon, I felt like I had done nothing for my family, dropping out of college and that. I felt that I needed to improve upon myself drastically and it seemed to learn that by writing music made me clear my mind and only look towards the good things in my life, then once I knew that others learned from what I was writing and understood it I felt that I had managed to achieve something good in my life by helping others.

Fascinating, you prove to definitely bring something to the game and in the way you want to change it, my last question is what brings you to London?

I don’t know really, I guess I have always wanted to go as a kid and it’s like a second home nowadays, I like the culture and that. But in particularly Soho is where it’s really at to me being quite interested in fashion and so on you know, I’m a guy who’s interested in his clothes and this is where I shop most of the time. Also London definitely has the best girls in comparison to Harlem hahaha.
