Hip-Hop: Iconography
Iconography for the Hip-Hop genre would be the way people dress, this is because anyone in relation to Hip-Hop lusually likes to wear clothes that make them stand out from the rest, clothes that show that person as an individual with their own style. An example of this would be the rap group AS$P MOB, a group from New York that heavily concentrate on their style and they way that they look, they specifically do this because it makes them stick out and easily recognisable either as a group or individually. Secondly another form of icongraphy for Hip-Hop would be the supposed explicity and violence in which it expresses and promotes, this is said due to the content of the lyrics in artists songs. However in relation to the content of artists songs its well known that a lot of them can relate back to the black power movement, especially on the east coast too. An example of this would be KRS-One's By All Means Necessary album released in 1988, not only does this voice police corruption, safe sex and government involvement in the drug trade within its lyrics but the cover is based off a famous image of Malcom X shown below, a well known human rights activist.
