Hip-Hop: Brief History
Hip-Hop began in 1983 with artists such as Run-D.M.C and LL Cool J from New York City. By 1986 hip-hop had largely grown in popularity and worked its way into mainstream society. Within the early 90's new school Hip-Hop reached a new level of popularity due to rappers such as Nas, Wu-Tang Clan and The Notorious B.I.G innovating and pushing the boundaries of Hip-Hop. For hip-hop in the late 90's a decline was seen due to the deaths of iconic rappers such as 2PAC, The Notorious B.I.G, Eazy-E and Big l. However the early 2000's seemed to provide new lease of life for hip-hop with artists such as Eminem, 50 Cent and Nas releasing chart topping albums. Within the 21st century hip-hop has surged in popularity as it has become a popular music genre to listen to, this is demonstrated by the chart topping albums and singles released by artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.
